On Her Knees

February 8, 2022

By Brenda Marie Davies

Riveting Sexual Memoir

We are all on a journey discovering our sexuality, our sexual boundaries and our sexual ethics. Brenda’s journey is fraught with the very real dangers of purity culture and she shares this so poignantly with her readers.

Brenda swings from the extremes of sexual abstinence and modesty, to what she exquisitely labels her “trampage” days, during which she does not recognize sexual assault for what it is because she thinks she deserves it. Her chapter or two about rape, abuse, coercion and consent are especially powerful and have helped inform my own sexual ethic going forward.

Brenda’s relationship with God/Spirit beautifully underpins the entire story, reminding us all that God doesn’t cringe when we orgasm, or exit the room while we have an extramarital affair. Spirit is ever-present and doesn’t abandon us when we experience life, sex, divorce, rape, abortion etc. And we needn’t assume we are divorced from him even if our conscience tells us we have done something immoral or unhealthy. In fact, we are invited to discuss it with God! He/she is right there as we express our sexuality. Ever present.

Thank you for sharing your story, Brenda. I look forward to hearing more of your journey and am inspired to write my own as well!
