Jesus challenged people to love their enemies. I now interpret this as Jesus telling us to stop seeing others as our enemies.
If you’re a Democrat, the Republicans are not your enemies.
If you’re a Republican, the Democrats are not your enemies.
A lot of us are coming to realize that “love the sinner, hate the sin” DOES NOT WORK.
In the same way, loving the Republican while calling them your enemy, doesn’t work.
Loving the Democrat while calling them “demon”crats and vilifying them, also doesn’t work.
The only way to create common ground and conversation where we actually listen to one another, is by loving and listening from a place of genuinely trying to accept and understand the “other” person or party.
Stop seeing them as your enemy.
Stop the hate.
Stop dehumanizing.
Reach out in love, letting go of fear.
Enemies cannot be “one nation (under God), INDIVISIBLE with liberty and justice for all.”
I’m not even American, and I know the pledge of allegiance by heart.
It’s a beautiful ideal…
Enemies cannot scale the wall of friendship.
Fear cannot bridge the gap.
Only love wins.
