You can be both queer and Christian.
This isn’t about recognizing that we are all sinners saved by grace – though that is the first step toward a queer-affirming theology for many of us.
This is about recognizing that a person’s gender and sexual identity – intersex, female, male, gay, straight, transgender, bisexual, asexual, gender non-binary, queer – none of these are sinful identifications.
Women are not inherently malformed males.
The genitalia of an intersex person isn’t wrong, bad, or a mistake.
Feeling and claiming to be male with a female reproductive system, isn’t offensive to God.
God designed creatures with all sorts of chromosomes, different methods of reproduction, various feelings of attraction and varieties of genitalia.
Sex isn’t the problem.
Gender identity isn’t the problem.
God loves and accepts all.
God created all.
The problem lies in inequality.
The sin is to see another human being as less-than, subordinate, outsider, unworthy, unlovable.
This isn’t about how Christians identify sex and gender.
This is about how Christians define and identify LOVE.
Love is about equality and equity.
The equal value and worth of every human being in their diversity.
When we learn how to truly love our neighbors as ourselves and turn our so-called enemies into equals; when we learn what it means experientially for the first to be equal to the last and the last to be equal to the first…then we are truly Christian, truly the church, truly the body of Christ.
And that body includes every sex and gender identity.
